We’ve covered the best gamer sites on Youtube and Tumblr, but what about Facebook? With more than 1.23 billion users, FB is the biggest social media platform out there and it’s one of the easiest places for gamers to get their news. Here are the four best pages on Facebook for you to get your gaming fix:
About: “Founded in 1996. IGN.com is your premier online destination for gaming, movies, comics and more. Find the latest reviews, exclusive news, videos, screenshots, and much more.”
IGN (gamers debate whether it stands for International Gaming Network or Imagine Games Network) is one of the biggest names online when it comes to gaming news. They update their FB page constantly, a whopping 20 times a day on average! IGN‘s coverage is pretty diverse and you’ll find updates and articles on just about any new game you can think of. You can see 40 minutes of game play for the new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. You could even win a trip giveaway to the mega-gaming convention EVO 2015 in Las Vegas. There’s massive coverage of this year’s E3 convention. There’s also a recent post celebrating strong female characters in video games. You’ll find in depth pieces on new releases like an article with the teaser: “#Fallout 4: Character creation, choices, consequences, and companions” and pieces about gamer hardware like the recent article covering everything about VR. The Witcher, Uncharted, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and Rainbow Six Siege are just a few more recent articles posted by IGN.
About: “Get an exclusive insider look at GameSpot, including some of the bizarre water cooler talk around the office, video outtakes and bloopers, answers to your questions, and more! Nobody knows games and gamers like GameSpot. Our love of games combined with our experience, innovation, and commitment makes GameSpot the standard for all things gaming. For 11 years we’ve been 100-percent focused on games. We understand that today’s gamers play for many different reasons, and we’re able to engage this growing number of diverse gamers no matter why they hit play.”
GameSpot is a great place to go for both gaming news and for engaging in conversation with fellow gamers. The page is updated pretty much nonstop and the comment section is particularly active on each post. Some of the newest posts cover the critics’ take on Batman: Arkham Knight, there’s a play-through demo presentation on Rise of the Tomb Raider from E3, as well as 25 minutes of game play for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. A particularly wonderful thing about GameSpot is their focus on the gamers themselves. For instance, they recently shared an article about a Destiny gamer named Ln_Wanderer who posted a call on Reddit for fellow gamers to pay tribute to his Destiny clan member Joshua R. Stockwell (gamer name TheSquashPhd) who recently passed away from cystic fibrosis complications. Destiny players sent video clips of the clan playing as a memorial montage for their fallen gaming comrade. More than most other gaming pages, GameSpot puts a particular emphasis on the gamers and the gaming community as a whole.
About: “Welcome to Game News Facebook Page! Check out the best trailers, gameplay videos funny / sexy games pictures on the official Facebook page of Game News! Twitter: http://twitter.com/GameNewsTrailer G+: http://plus.google.com/+GameNewsOfficial”
Game News is one of the most fun gaming news pages on Facebook. In addition to sharing updates on new releases and game information, this page also shares a lot of fun gaming cartoons, photos, and fan artwork. One of my favourite humorous photos shows the iconic production still of Alien‘s Ridley, drenched in sweat, as the creepy Alien bares its teeth at her – there’s a photo directly below mirroring the gruesome pose with a toothy poodle terrorizing another little dog. For Father’s Day they posted a cute little video of LEGO Darth Vader and Luke watching the duel suns of Tatooine set. Of course, they also post news stories like one detailing the new Play Station 4 console, or you can watch 40 minutes of game play from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and you can also see the first official trailer for Dishonored 2.
About: “We bring you fresh original programs as well as up to the minute videos & news for all things gaming! Smoking hot videos for the latest video games as well as fantastic original programming about video games, old and new!”
Game Trailers posts a ton of interviews with gamers and gaming experts, giving you the behind-the-scenes scoop on your favourite names. They post about once a day and their stuff is always pretty neat. Today they posted a link to watch “Michael Huber and Matt Blair continue playing Shenmue II with thoughts on Shenmue III and not-so-Lucky Hit”. Yesterday was a video from E3 for Street Fighter V where you could watch “Ben Moore detail why the improvements in Street Fighter V make it more than ‘just another fighting game’”. Another video gives you Huber’s thoughts on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Video. There are also videos about Star Wars Battlefront, For Honor, and game plays for Project Morpheus, No Man’s Sky, and Cuphead. By the way, don’t be fooled by this page’s name, you’ll actually find a plethora of cool video game commentary here, it’s so much more than just a bunch of trailers.
